Lifeguard Certification Courses
Let’s make waves for water safety! At the YMCA, we’re proud to bring the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification program to our community, open to Y members and non-members. Whether you’re new to lifeguarding or renewing your certification, our supportive environment and experienced instruction will help you excel in your role as a guardian of aquatic safety. From rescue techniques to CPR training and first aid skills, this program prepares you to become a trusted lifeguard in our community.
Eligibility:Must be at least 15 years old before the last scheduled class date to enroll.
Prerequisite Skills Evaluation:
- Swim 200 yards (150 yards, tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs, 50 yards, all continuously without breaks).
- Complete a timed 10 pound brick retrieval event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
Course Completion Requirements:
- Complete online blended learning component, delivered via email.
- Attend the entire course.
- Participate in all skill sessions, drills, activities, and scenarios.
- Demonstrate competency in all the required skills and scenarios.
- Pass the final written exams with a minimum 80 percent grade.
