Swim Lessons - Preschool (ages 3-5)
COVID19- we will permit one parent on the pool deck for the child in swim lessons. Everyone must wear a face mask in the YMCA. The child in the class may take off their facemask when they enter the pool. Class sizes have been reduced and number of classes offered at the same time have been reduced. Swim Instructors will wear a face shield while in the pool. Physical distancing while in the water for a swim class is not possible for water safety especially with beginner swimmers.
There are two categories for children ages 3 to 5, Swim Basics and Swim Strokes.
- Swim Basics (Stage 1, 2 and 3) develops personal water safety and basic swimming skills in students of all ages. Swimmers develop a high level of comfort in the water by practicing safe water habits, engaging in underwater exploration, and learning how to swim to safety and exit if they fall into a body of water.
- Swim Strokes (Stage 4) introduces and refines the stroke technique. Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke techniques, developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being and foster a lifetime of physical activity.
Our Aquatics staff members are available to answer any questions about the swim program and to help place your child at the appropriate swim level.
